During this past week, the Red Sox faced the Devil Rays and the Angels. This is how our key players did this past week and how they affected your fantasy teams.
Hitters:
Dustin Pedroia: Pedroia just keeps on hitting. The Sox rookie had six hits including his sixth home run on the season.
Kevin Youkilis: Swing and a miss. Youkilis went an abysmal 3 for 27 at the plate and also struck out 12 times. On the plus side though, he will surpass his home run and RBI totals from last season.
David Ortiz: Ay Papi! Ortiz had the best week out of all the Sox regulars by smacking eight hits including home runs number 20 and 21. He also drove in nine runs.
Manny Ramirez: Seven hits and four RBI’s for the left fielder, but no home runs. By the way, Manny only needs 11 more home runs to reach 500.
Mike Lowell: Lowell had another solid week collecting eight hits, one home run, and five RBI’s.
Jason Varitek: The Sox captain had five hits and a home run.
J.D. Drew: After going 0 for 8 in the Tampa Bay series, Drew turned it on by going 6 for 14 against the Angels.
Coco Crisp: Only four hits all week, but he did score four runs.
Pitchers:
Tim Wakefield: He only pitched one game this week but it was a great one. Wakefield shut the Devil Rays down in eight innings of work while yielding only two hits and striking out six.
Jon Lester: Lester likewise kept the Devil Rays at bay by going seven strongand striking out four while giving up only one run.
Daisuke Matsuzaka: Eeek! Dice-K couldn’t handle Tampa Bay. He got the loss in a game where he gave up six earned runs in six innings of work.
Josh Beckett: Cy Young winner? Lets not jinx it, but he did help his case by dominating the second best team in the AL with a seven inning, eight strikeout performance. He should have earned his 16th win of the year but instead Eric Gagne blew ANOTHER game.
Curt Schilling: Maybe he needed more time on the DL. 6IP, 6ER, 5K. The strikeouts were not bad, but everything else was disappointing. Silver lining? He got the win.
Jonathan Papelbon: One of the most dominating closers in the game racked up two saves in three and a third innings of work while striking out six. Papelbon now has 29 saves on the year.
