The Patriots cut two players before Wednesday’s practice, one being punter Tom Malone.
Malone, 23, had been in competition with Danny Baugher for the punting job after veteran Josh Miller was released last week. Malone did not punt in last Friday’s game against Tennessee, and Baugher seemingly locked up the job with a 70 yard punt in his first attempt against the Titans. The other released player was defensive lineman Kenny Smith.
Other observations from practice – courtesy of Reiss’s Pieces – are the absence of Tom Brady, who has been expecting the birth of his first child, and the inclusion of newly re-signed defensive end Ty Warren, who hasn’t been on the field since August 10.
We’ll have a full preview and expectations on Friday’s game against Carolina – the most important pre-season game of the year.
