Asante back with the Pats?

Adam Schefter of NFL.com is reporting that Asante Samuel is close to signing his tender offer and re-joining the Patriots.

Samuel – who has held out of all workouts this pre-season because of a contract dispute – is expected to be at practice this coming week. His agent would not confirm nor deny the report of Samuel returning now in hopes of being ready for the regular season opener against the Jets on Sept. 8.

The Patriots franchised tagged the cornerback in lieu of signing him to a long term, high salary deal. Samuel tied for the league lead with 10 interceptions in 2006.

More as the story develops.

  1. Any word on whether Samuel has been keeping himself in top condition?? Sitting out all of camp and pre-season will surly hinder him. However, he did have a ballin’ season and deserves to laugh straight to the bank with some of Craft’s loot.
