Yahoo reports that the Red Sox may begin their 2008 season in a series against Oakland in Tokyo Dome. This game would be a first for both teams opening their seasons in Japan.

The Athletics also seem quite open to the idea.

Athletics player representative Huston Street said the club seemed to like the idea.
“The team has pretty much approved it,” the reliever said before Monday’s game at Seattle. “We’re just waiting on word.”

This series would provide the perfect opportunity for Daisuke Matsuzaka and Hideki Okajima to head back home and play in front of their native country and fans.

Other MLB exhibition games are slated for March 2008 in Beijing.
