Daisuke Matsuzaka (14-12, 4.44 ERA) has sucked recently. He has been an explosion of suckdom. Five starts ago Dice-K had a 3.59 ERA and was looking like a great rookie of the year candidate. Now he has a 4.44 ERA, has lost four of his last five and people are starting to talk about Dice-K being another Japanese crossover failure. The last statement is a bit harsh but he has brought it on himself. Here are his numbers in his last five starts.
Against the Yankees Dice-K has a 6.98 ERA this year in three games started. Don’t look for a quality start tonight. All the trends are going against Dice tonight. If he does pitch well it means great things for Boston going forward.
Daisuke Matsuzaka will be facing Andy Pettitte tonight. In the second half Pettitte has been very solid. Holding a ERA of 3.14 and going 9-2. I’d give Pettitte the pitching edge tonight. Have a look for yourselves. Here’s how they match up:
The best news for the weekend series is Manny Ramirez could be back today. Having Ellsbury in left has been a great replacement, offensively and defensively. But with the playoffs three weeks away the Red Sox would like to see Manny swinging the bat, and swinging it well especially.
Game starts at 7pm. Its September people. Enjoy.
Here’s my… Hot & Stop List
Manny Ramirez lifetime vs Pettitte: .431 avg, 4 HR’s, and 19 RBI
Jason Varitek lifetime vs Pettitte: .354 avg, .407 obp, and .542 slg
Jeter, Damon, Giambi, Posada all have over 1.000 OPS against Dice-K
