Wakefield Out for ALDS
According to a Yahoo news report, Tim Wakefield is not on the Red Sox playoff roster (at least for this series).
Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Tuesday the goal was to get Wakefield healthy enough for later in the playoffs, should the Red Sox advance. The knuckleballer threw Tuesday, but not well enough to be effective as a long reliever during the short series since he’s unlikely to get a start.
Jon Lester will provide relief in Wakefield’s absence. Kevin Cash was included in the playoff roster, giving the Red Sox three catchers and allows the Red Sox more substitution flexibility during the ALDS.
The Angels will be without Gary Mathews Jr. and Bartolo Colon.
