Three Questions for the Celtics 2007-2008 Regular Season

If the answer to all of the following questions is Yes, then you are looking at the future 2008 Eastern Conference Champions. Yes, that’s even if the Bulls get Kobe Bryant. That also means there are no real significant injuries to the team. I guarantee if the following question marks turn out positively, we will see the Boston Celtics back in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1987.

1. Can the Big Three mesh into a cohesive unit?
Predicted Answer:

  • Yes. Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce are all pretty unselfish players. Garnett as a big man is a great passer. Allen always meshed well with another star when he was in Seattle (Rashard Lewis). Pierce was great with Antoine Walker in the early stages of his career (They were nicknamed the “Dynamic Duo”).

2. Will Rajon Rondo make the big leap and become a top 10 NBA point guard?
Predicted Answer:

  • Not yet. I really believe Rondo will be a good Tony Parker-like point guard one day. His day will not come this year, but I do think Rondo can become an above-average point guard this season (perhaps in the top 15). Playing with these stars will help him. It’s easy to pass it to a guy when you know he’s gonna hit his shot. Rondo could really make me look dumb this year. I hope so for the Celtics’ sake.

3. Will the bench help enough for the Celtics to compete?
Predicted Answer:

  • Yes. I think the C’s have enough on their bench at every position except center. You can never have enough big men. James Posey, Tony Allen, and Eddie House will be awesome scoring options off the bench this season, so that’s good. Leon Powe, Brian Scalabrine, and Glen “Big Baby” Davis will be fine as backup forwards. Gabe Pruitt and House can help out Rondo at point guard so we should be fine there. Scot Pollard and I guess Powe are your current backups to Kendrick Perkins at center. With an extra spot open on the roster, look for the Celtics to add a big man before the season is done.

  2. Hmmm Celtics should try to get another backup PG and a big man.

Other than the Pistons, I don’t see any team in the East that is so balanced as a team.
