Rivers to Rejoin Celtics

Doc’s back with the Celtics after his father’s death, according to the Associated Press. The AP reported the story at around 8:30 a.m.

BOSTON (AP) — Celtics coach Doc Rivers has rejoined the team following the death of his father.

Rivers expects to coach the team in tonight’s game against the Denver Nuggets and hopes to also be on hand for Friday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks. He will then head back to Chicago, where services will be held Saturday for Grady Alexander Rivers Sr.

The elder Rivers, a retired Chicago police officer, died last weekend at the age of 76.

Doc Rivers left the Celtics before Sunday’s overtime win over the Toronto Raptors, spending the next two days with his mother and other family members.
