OUCH! It’s easy to say now that the Houston Rockets, who have won 12 in a row and are the hottest team in the NBA, are officially done. 7’6″ center Yao Ming will be out for the season and playoffs with a stress fracture in his foot.
Reaction: What more is there to say? For whatever reason, the Rockets cannot stay healthy with Yao or Tracy McGrady. The Rockets could still make the playoffs, but wont be going anywhere if they do make it. The Western Conference has 9 teams separated by 6 games (from New Orleans to Denver). The Blazers are in 10th, and 10 games out.
By the way, only 2 teams are within 10 games of the Celtics (Pistons, Magic). Yeah, the conferences are still that different. And speaking of the Celtics, there’s now one less team for the rest of the West to deal with and one less team to for the Celtics to think about. Every team had a collective sigh when they heard the Yao news. Definitely.
