Mirabelli Released

Extra Bases reports that Doug Mirabelli has been released by the Red Sox, although it is yet to be official. Look for Dusty Brown and Kevin Cash to take the reigns in Mirabelli’s departure.

Of course, the question is raised as to whether either of them can catch a knuckleball. I’m pretty sure we all know it’s not an easy task. I still have some painful playoff memories cringing with every pitch Varitek tried (usually unsuccessfully) to catch from Tim Wakefield.

While Mirabelli might be gone now, he still could have the chance to re-surface if Brown and Cash aren’t up the challenge. If he’s gone for good, I’m going to miss the no-batting-gloves stance!
