One of readers let us know about a great community service opportunity going on tomorrow (April 20th) in Boston:
The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation will be bringing its Play Ball Tour for Kids to Boston on April 19th and 20th which includes baseball/softball clinics, a free Coaches Clinic featuring instruction by former Major Leaguer, Bill Ripken and a Badges for Baseball program. Badges for Baseball is a community crime-prevention initiative that uses baseball and softball to prevent juvenile delinquency and crime by encouraging healthy out-of-school activities. The program was launched in 2008 in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Legislature.
In 2008 the Badges for Baseball program, funded jointly by the Foundation and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, has provided cash grants, equipment, training, and clinics valued at over $1,000,000 to Massachusetts Boys & Girls Clubs, PAL Programs, Boston Red Sox RBI Program, YMCAs, and other local youth organization and law enforcement partners such as the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office, in 34 towns and cities across the Commonwealth.
