KG Named Defensive Player of the Year

Kevin Garnett earned a well-deserved accolade for his incredible 2007-2008 season. He was named the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year for his contributions to the amazing Celtics defense. Upon his arrival last offseason, Garnett’s presence transformed the defensive mentality of the team…which led the C’s to be ranked first in field goal percentage allowed, three-point field goal percentage and scoring differential, and ranked second in points allowed.

KG is the first Celtic to win the award since its inception in 1983. He joins other defensive studs like Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman, and Hakeem Olajuwon.

My thoughts: He definitely deserved this award. His arrival changed the defensive intensity and culture of the team. A bad defensive team became the best defensive team, all because of Kevin Garnett.

He probably should be the NBA MVP too…but that’s another argument for another day. Well done, KG!
