Lowell Activated, Will Play Tonight

Red Sox 3B Mike Lowell was activated Tuesday and is in the lineup tonight against the Blue Jays. Brandon Moss was expected to be sent down to make room, but he’s still around while Jacoby Ellsbury is a little banged up. The Sox instead designated Bryan Corey for assignment again.

Lowell will play at 3B and bat sixth while Kevin Youkilis will move over to 1B and bat fifth. The 2007 World Series MVP is batting .200 this season (6-30) with zero extra base hits to go along with three walks. His bat will heat up, especially seeing that he’s refreshed.

My thoughts: It’s definitely good to have Mike Lowell back. The offense has really struggled during the current five-game losing streak, and perhaps Lowell is just the man for the job. Notice that Jed Lowrie is still on the roster. He probably won’t be sent down until Alex Cora comes back from injury.
