The Red Sox had yet another walk-off hit in a 2-1 win over the Blue Jays. Jason Varitek singled home Manny Ramirez after Jed Lowrie was thrown out at the plate in the previous play. Jonathan Papelbon pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the victory, after getting the win in Game 1. Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched seven scoreless innings but received no decision.
Sox Studs:
- David Ortiz temporarily proved Sports of Boston’s Dan wrong, going 2-4 with a HR in the Sox win.
- Manny Ramirez went 1-3 with one walk and scored the game-winning run. Hey, when the team only scores three runs in two straight wins, you have to find something positive offensively.
- Daisuke Matsuzaka continued the stud Sox pitching, allowing only two hits and two walks in seven shutout innings. He also had four strikeouts while lowering his ERA to 2.52.
Diamond Duds:
- Manny Delcarmen is going through a rough stretch. He allowed one hit and was charged for one run. Sure, Hideki Okajima allowed the inherited runner to score, but Delcarmen really can’t get it done lately.
What were you thinking…
- Blue Jays GM J. P. Ricciardi probably should’ve waited to play the Red Sox before cutting ties with Frank Thomas. The Big Hurt owns the Red Sox during his career, especially Sox starter Tim Wakefield (who will be pitching Thursday night’s game). After sweeping the Sox in early April, the Blue Jays have dropped two straight games while only managing one run in the two games.
Other Notes:
- Blue Jays OF Adam Lind got his first hit of the season in going 1-3. He’s now batting .077.
- Mike Lowell went 1-4 with his first double.
- Tim Wakefield and A.J. Burnett will start the third game of the series.
