Not Another Pink Hat 7-11

For most Americans, Friday, July 4th was a great day. Families were having barbecues and many towns had Independence Day fireworks. Red Sox fans had even more reason to celebrate, after beating the Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

However, according to boston.com, this wasn’t enough to satisfy a group of young people in Falmouth, MA. The group noticed a car stuck in traffic with New York license plates and began to harass the family, accusing them of being Yankees fans.

According to police, the driver stepped out of the car and asked the group to stop since there were children in the car. That’s when 20-year-old Robert D. Correia beat the man with a baseball bat while another member of the group slammed the man’s body into the car.

The victim, whose name has not been disclosed, sustained minor injuries, including bruised ribs. Correia has been arrested and is waiting arraignment in Falmouth District Court. Charges may be pressed against other members of the group.

My take: Am I missing something? Doesn’t New York have 2 baseball teams? Isn’t it completely possible that someone with New York license plates could be a Mets fan? It’s also entirely possible that this family does not care about baseball at all.

I have to wonder how biased the article on boston.com was. I have a hard time believing that a man stepped out of his car and nicely asked the group to stop, and then got beaten up. It seems much more likely that the man was also rude and might have provoked the group.

However, I am definitely not saying that this man deserved what he got. This is just another example of how the Sox/Yanks rivalry has gotten out of hand. This clearly has nothing to do with baseball, but was just a bunch of punks who were looking for trouble. So if there are any Sox or Yanks fans out there who are wondering why the rest of the country hates us, I can assure you that it’s because of stupid people like this group from Falmouth, MA.

  1. Sure all of us Red Sox fans always have gotten into it with Yankees fans but this is ridiculous!

Those idiots give the true baseball fans a bad rep.

  2. “…gotten into it..? Red Sox fans are obscenely rude and antagonistic towards anything and anyone from New York. Obviously penis envy.
