Could Manny Ramirez really be traded before the July 31 trading deadline? Manny appears ready to leave.
“If the Red Sox are a better team without Manny Ramirez, they should trade me; I will not object. I don’t have any preferences. I could choose a team that offers me the best conditions or one in the chase for the postseason. I don’t care where I play, I can even play in Iraq if need be. My job is to play baseball…I’m tired of them. They’re tired of me.” – Manny Ramirez
Sean McAdam of the Providence Journal reports that Manny has drawn interest from at least four other teams…
A three-team deal with the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates (I heard it on WEEI’s The Big Show):
Bay is a complete hitter who would be able to replace Manny right away (maybe not with the same production, but close) and for now is a cheaper option. He also is capable of hitting .300 with a .400 OBP and at least .500 slugging percentage. Would this deal work for you?
Would Jason Bay be enough in return for Manny Ramirez?

How about Texeira? For the Braves, $20M is probably too steep, so it’ll be swapping one free agent for another I suppose, but if the Sox choose, they could decline Manny’s option and use the money to make a run at Texeira. He’s got the production like Manny and is younger. I suppose Youk would have to move to the OF to accommodate Tex at 1B. Realistic?
Bay would be okay, but I’d still miss Manny.
I’m sure Dan would like to see Burrell in a Red Sox uniform.
[...] are about to enter August and also about to see the end of the trade deadline. I really hope the Red Sox don’t trade Manny because for the sake of three of my fantasy teams, I don’t want Pat Burrell in Boston. [...]
Every deal is a bad one when it comes to making a run this year.
Manny is the best option for a big bat in this lineup if we plan to go for a World Series.
If this was the off-season and we had one year left of Manny, then Bay or Conor Jackson would have the most value and might have a chance to acclimate themselves.
But to toss a player in Boston in the middle of a possible championship run, you better know he can perform here.
If its an absolute must to get rid of him: Best option- Jason Bay, Second-Best Option- Pat Burrell.
Even though Burrell would be a bad option, because come playoff time a good pitcher can dominate Burrell. Manny, Bay, and even Conor Jackson stand a better chance against a smart pitcher.
[...] to the Star-Ledger, officials from both the Mets and Red Sox have confirmed that trade talks about Manny Ramirez have taken place between the two teams. The Red Sox suspect that GM Omar Minaya wants Ramirez more [...]
