Beckett to Miss Start with Injury

Righty Out with Elbow Inflammation

Red Sox ace Josh Beckett will miss his next scheduled start against the New York Yankees on Tuesday, giving him more time to rest after Terry Francona dubbed Beckett’s injury “inflammation in his right elbow.” According to The Globe’s Nick Cafardo, it was the first time that the word “inflammation” had been used to describe Beckett’s injury.

Now, Beckett will be pushed back to start Friday against the Chicago White Sox. In his place on Tuesday will be Tim Wakefield as he returns from the disabled list.

More from Cafardo:

Francona said after talking to pitching coach John Farrell they decided to take an “overly-cautious” approach. Francona said Beckett wants to pitch, but seemed to be on board.

Beckett just threw for about 10 minutes in right field to Farrell. The plan is for Beckett to throw his side session on Tuesday in New York.
