Patriots Keep Cassel as Brady’s Backup

The New England Patriots released quarterback Matt Gutierrez on Saturday and kept Matt Cassel as Tom Brady’s backup for a fourth season.

Thoughts: A bit surprising here to see Gutierrez be cut from the team given his strong pre-season performance. He will still be practice squad eligible so we might see more of him throughout the season.
