Patriots Sign Matt Gutierrez to Practice Squad

The Patriots signed QB Matt Gutierrez, formerly the team’s third quarterback, to the practice squad Wednesday. Now, the Pats have three QBs on the roster after placing reigning MVP Tom Brady on the injured reserve with an injured left knee.

Matt Cassel will be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season (barring injury) and probably needs to win 9 of the next 15 games to come close to ensuring a playoff berth. The other quarterback on the roster is rookie backup Kevin O’Connell, who used to play at San Diego State.

Gutierrez reportedly could be active before Sunday’s game against the Jets.
