Rain Delays Johnny Pesky Ceremony

The Red Sox have announced that the threat of rain Friday and Saturday has delayed the plan to retire Johnny Pesky’s #6 until Sunday.

The Sox initially planned to hold the ceremony an hour before gametime on Saturday at around 3 p.m., which also happens to be Pesky’s 89th birthday. But, because of a coastal storm and Tropical Storm Kyle, the ceremony’s postponement was necessary.

  1. A well earned tribute to a loyal man.

When I was working on my novel Timely Persuasion, I included a chapter set at the 1946 world series to help vindicate Pesky from his undeserved goat horns. It ended up getting cut from the final book, but it feels appropriate to re-visit it this weekend to help honor #6. You can check it out here for free online:

    Enjoy!
