Mike Lowell Hurt Yet Again

Mike Lowell, back for the first time since Sept. 16, re-aggravated his hip injury in Friday night’s ugly, rain-delayed 19-8 loss to the Yankees. Lowell will probably not play Saturday, and his availability for the ALDS against the Angels is now in question (Game 1 is on Wednesday).

Lowell checked his swing in his first at bat, and tweaked his hip. On the next pitch, the third baseman flied out and favored the injury while running to first. Lowell was removed from the game and his status for the future is uncertain.

Lowell is obviously unhappy about his setback and his uncertainty for the ALDS.

“I would defer to we’ll see what time says. By no means do I think I’m owed a roster spot just because I’ve played here. If I’m not going to do anything that can help the team win . . . but in the short series it’s a little different. You don’t have to carry as many pitchers. Maybe pinch hitting is an op tion. We’ll see. I’m not ruling out anything yet, but obviously I was disappointed today.”
