According to the Boston Globe’s Mike Reiss, the Patriots have placed Laurence Maroney on the IR with a shoulder injury. Reiss is citing an NFL source in his report.
Maroney had missed the two Patriots losses (Week 3 against the Dolphins and last week against the Chargers) with that shoulder injury. In all, he amassed 93 yards on 28 carries this season.
The Patriots will now have to turn to LaMont Jordan, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, Heath Evans, and BenJarvus Green-Ellis at the RB position.
This is a big blow to the Patriots, but a potentially HUGE blow to Maroney’s future with the team. He’s signed through 2010, but it remains to be seen whether he will be cut before next season. He looked like a No. 1 back toward the end of last season, but injuries have marred his career for the most part.
Maybe the Patriots should’ve taken Joseph Addai instead…
