BC, BU, UNH in Top 5 in This Week’s Hockey Poll

Colorado College took three of four points from nemesis Denver to tighten their grip on #1 with 41 of 50 first place votes.  Hockey East rivals BC, with five first place votes, and BU, taking four first place votes, held #2 and #3 respectively.

The Eagles swept Merrimack this weekend 4-1 and 4-3 (OT) and the Terriers thumped #16 Vermont 7-2.  New Hampshire moved up one spot to #5 after taking three of four points against #10 Northeastern.  Minnesota also moved up a slot to #5 and Denver settled in at #6.

Harvard won its season opener against Dartmouth to move up two spots to #18.  UMass checks into the poll for the first time this season at #19 by sweeping a home-and-home series with Providence.  Vermont hung in the poll despite its loss to BU by rebounding with a win against Dartmouth.

This weekend, BC will play Notre Dame on the gridiron and, as tradition holds, they will face off on the ice as well in a rematch of last year’s title tilt.  The Eagles will also make the trip to Orono to play the Maine Black Bears as well.  New Hampshire hits the road against Minnesota for two games in a huge series with implications for tournament seeding this spring.  BU will play UMass-Lowell and Northeastern goes outside Hockey East for a game with Bentley.  Vermont will play Providence, who will also face Notre Dame and UMass tangles with Merrimack.
