Matt Cassel is going to be a very rich man next season.
A free agent after the season, Matt Cassel had his second straight game with 400 yards passing in the 48-28 win over the Dolphins. It was the first time in Patriots history that a quarterback had 400 yards in consecutive games, and also the first time a Pats offense has gone over 500 yards of total offense in two straight contests….Yes, that even includes 2007′s video game-like offense.
Randy Moss hooked up with Cassel eight times for 125 yards and three touchdowns in the back-and-forth affair. The Patriots showed a lot of poise on the road to keep answering scores by Miami, and then pulled away in the fourth quarter as the wheels came off the Dolphins’ bus.
Wes Welker hauled in eight more catches for a season-high 120 yards, extending his NFL record streak for having six catches in the first 11 games of the season.
The Patriots did not gain much in the AFC East race, except for separation from Miami. The Jets improved to 8-3 after beating the undefeated Titans, and the Bills scored 54 points on their way to beating the Chiefs. Here’s the division standings for after Week 12:
| AFC East | W-L | Home | Road | Division |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jets | 8-3 | 4-1 | 4-2 | 3-1 |
| Patriots | 7-4 | 4-2 | 3-2 | 3-2 |
| Dolphins | 6-5 | 4-3 | 2-2 | 2-2 |
| Bills | 6-5 | 3-2 | 3-3 | 0-3 |
SoB’s Jeff will have more game reaction in his “Verdict.”

Cassel was on fire yesterday. Someone has been practicing with Moss.
Haha it seems so. It’s gonna be fun riding out Cassel to the end…whenever that is.
