The Texas Rangers traded pitcher Wes Littleton to the Red Sox for a player to be named later or cash. The Rangers, who announced the trade Friday, had designated Littleton for assignment Nov. 20.
Littleton played primarily for Triple-A Oklahoma in 2008, going 7-1 with six saves and a 4.01 ERA. Littleton pitched out of the bullpen in 12 games last season with the Rangers as well.
He made a combined 68 appearances in 2006 and 2007. In his career, he has a a 5-3 record with three saves and a 3.69 ERA. He will definitely be given an opportunity to compete for a spot in the Red Sox bullpen, but will probably begin the year at Triple-A Pawtucket.
