Francisco Rodriguez Signs with Mets

The Mets have officially kicked off baseball’s winter meetings by officially signing closer Francisco Rodriguez to a three-year, $37 million deal that includes incentives. K-Rod set the major league record for saves in one season last year with 62.

New York desperately needed to address their need for bullpen arms, and landed probably the best one available. With Billy Wagner out for the entire 2009 season following surgery, K-Rod will immediately step in as closer. The bullpen was one of the cheif reasons the Mets blew division leads in 2007 and 2008 in September.

Now…let the Winter Meetings begin!
