According to the Boston Herald’s Karen Guregian, Matt Cassel’s father has died. Greg Cassel was a longtime Hollywood script writer and divorced Cassel’s mother in 1996 when Matt was 14 years old.
Mrs. Cassel raised Matt and his three siblings.
The Patriots declined comment on the situation, and it is unknown if Matt Cassel will be available for Sunday’s game against the Raiders. QBs Kevin O’Connel or Matt Guitierrez would likely start if Cassel cannot go.
Reaction: This is a pretty sad situation. My father is still alive so I cannot relate, so I cannot imagine the pain he must be going through, especially during the holiday season. If Cassel cannot go, I would understand, but it would severely hinder the Pats’ chances of a victory against the lowly Raiders in Oakland.
