Report: Mark Teixeira Signs with Yankees

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports the Yankees have agreed to a contract with free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira. Nothing is confirmed and exact figures aren’t known but Olney reports it may be around 8 years and $180 million dollars.

The Yanks beat out the Angels, Orioles, Nationals and the Red Sox for the 28-year-old. With the acquisition, the Yankees will have the the four highest paid players in baseball in Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Big Tex and CC Sabathia. Ridiculous.

My Take: I’m surprised this happened because I thought despite the report of the Sox being out of the race for Tex that he would eventually end up there. The Yankees are more powerful than ever thanks to the success of the YES Network and their new stadium, with some seats going for $2,500 per game. With two new pitchers and a new first baseman, they are gearing up for another run at a dynasty. Only time will tell if these signings turn into Carl Pavano, Randy Johnson and Jason Giambi.
