Boston University beat Maine and Northeastern swept Merrimack this weekend as college hockey got back into full swing, but it was not enough to oust Notre Dame from the top spot in the latest edition of the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports Division I Men’s College Hockey Poll. The Irish got 46 of the 50 first place votes and remains a solid #1, ahead of BU, who go two first place votes.
The Huskies come next, followed by Denver and one-loss Cornell, which got the final two top votes. Michigan was up four spots to number six, while Minnesota tumbled four spots to seventh. Vermont, up four spots, Miami, and Princeton round out the top ten. BC is #12 and UNH is right behind at #13 to make five Hockey East programs in the poll.
The Eagles had a rough visit to Vermont, tying and losing in the two games in Catamount country. Conversely, New Hampshire took three of four points from UMass in two overtime games. Providence upended UMass-Lowell for their first conference win of the season. Northeastern remains on top with 21 points at the halfway mark in the conference season. UNH, at 17 points, leads a pack behind the Huskies: Vermont 16, BU 15, BC 13, Maine 11, and both UMass system schools at 10.
Highlighting action this weekend, the hot Catamounts visit the equally on fire Huskies in Boston while BC will visit arch-rival BU.
