According to the Boston Globe, the Red Sox acquired right-handed relief pitcher Randor Bierd from the Orioles in exchange for David Pauley. Pauley had been designated for assignment after the Sox needed a spot on their 40-man roster for new acquisition John Smoltz.
Pauley pitched in six games (two starts) for the Sox last season, going 0-1 with an 11.68 ERA.
Bierd was 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA in 49 games as a reliever for the Orioles in 2008.
