Bruins Win Last Game Before Break

After their debacle against the St. Louis Blues, the Bruins were in need of a feel-good performance against the Maple Leafs in their final game before the All-Star break. Initially, hopes of a win appeared grim.

The Bruins were down 3-1 entering the third period, but goals from defensmen Dennis Wideman at 2:17 and Zdeno Chara at 14:07 helped the B’s tie it up at 3-3. After a scoreless overtime period, the Bruins scored on three of their four shootout attempts for the 4-3 win.

With the win, the Bruins improve to 1-6-2 when trailing after 40 minutes. Now, of course it’s tough to win when trailing entering the third peroid, but let’s take a positive spin. They’ve only trailed nine total times entering the third period, which is pretty damn good.

All-Star Tim Thomas finished with 31 saves in 34 chances including two in the shootout. He was especially strong in the third peroid and overtime, turning away 13 shots in preserving the tie.

The Bruins take a nice long break for the All-Star festivities (which SoB will be live blogging all weekend), and next play on Tuesday against the Capitals.
