Mark Kotsay Undergoes Back Surgery

Red Sox backup first baseman and outfielder Mark Kotsay reportedly had back surgery in late January to remove a displaced disk fragment. He could be out for the first month of the season.

Luckily, the Sox have a backup plan for Kotsay in Brad Wilkerson. Wilkerson signed a minor league deal with the team Tuesday, but now he’ll probably earn a spot on the major league roster at the start of the season due to the void on the bench.
