Patriots Interested in Fred Taylor

The Patriots have expressed interest in recently released running back Fred Taylor. Taylor, 33, spent the first 11 years of his career with the Jaguars and finished with seven 1,000-yard seasons. He ranks 16th in NFL history with 11,271 yards.

Taylor was released as a cap casualty recently as he was due to make $6 million next season. He had one of the worst years of his career in 2008, finished with 556 yards in 13 games and a career-low 3.9 yards per carry.

Reaction: This would be a nice addition for the Patriots, because at this stage of his career, Taylor is more suited for a timeshare role. Here in New England, the Patriots already have Sammy Morris, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Kevin Faulk, Laurence Maroney, and LaMont Jordan, so Taylor would fit right in with this group. If Taylor gets signed, however, I would expect on of those players cut…can anyone say Maroney?
