Take a deep breath Celtics fans, the Starbury era is upon us. Stephon Marbury has officially signed with the Celtics and might suit up tonight for the game against the Pacers. Terms of the deal haven’t been officially released but it’s believed to be a pro-rated amount for the veteran minimum. The tattooed one himself will be wearing the legendary green and white for at least a few months.
Also, just two days after being arrested for suspicion of DUI, Celtics guard Gabe Pruitt has been suspended for two games by the team for conduct detrimental to the team. Pruitt apologized for his actions today and will miss tonight’s game against the Pacers, paving the way for Stephon Marbury to make his Celtics debut tonight.
My Take: I don’t think of much of Marbury, but I just don’t see how it can be a bad signing for the Celts. The team is too close nit for him to become a cancer, and he’s a better option at the end of the bench than Sam Cassell or Patrick O’Bryant were. Yes, he did tattoo his head with the logo of his shoe company, but if he can help lead the Celts to a second consecutive title, I’ll wear my pair of Starbury’s for a week.
