March Madness Heats Up After First Weekend

Whether it was Cleveland State, Arizona, Western Kentucky, or Wisconsin, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament had its fair share of first round surprises. Despite the number of upsets, the No. 1, 2, and 3 seeds in each bracket all advanced to this weekend’s Sweet 16, leaving most with chances to have a successful bracket when it’s all said and done.

It was a wild first weekend in the SoB Bracket Challenge group on Yahoo! Sports as well. Two readers, “numba 2″ and “sdesi43,” share the overall lead in our group with 53 points and can still collect a total of 181 points overall. SoB’s Geoff leads our staff with 52 points and is currently tied for third place.

One of our readers, who named his bracket “DA ONE,” went a perfect 16-for-16 on Day 1 and 30-32 overall in the first round. He was not nearly as successful in the second round, and dropped to third place in the standings.

As for my bracket, I am currently tied for 25th place out of 39 overall brackets. I’m still in good shape, however, because all my Elite 8 teams are still alive. If it all works out, even I could be hoisting the inagural SoB Bracket Challenge trophy.

Also, if you like me, you’ll be rooting for Villanova to take down Duke this weekend and eventually No. 1 Pittsburgh on the way to the Final Four. If that happnes, I’ll be in extremely good shape. LET’S GO WILDCATS!!!
