76ers to Talk to Tom Thibodeau

With recent success in building the best defensive squad in the NBA, the Doc Rivers coaching tree is finally starting to branch out. The 76ers, according to a source close to the AP, will interview Celtics assistant coach Tom Thibodeau. The date of the interview was not immediately known.

Thibodeau joined the Celtics August 30, 2007, shortly after the arrival of Kevin Garnett. The Celtics then went on to win their 17th NBA Championship, and Thibodeau was given much of the credit for their instant success.

Reaction: Just like Bill Belichick of the Patriots and Terry Francona of the Red Sox, Doc Rivers has built a strong coaching staff and system attractive to other teams in the NBA. I figured Thibodeau would be interviewed at some point, and I was surprised he didn’t earn one after the 2007-08 season.
