Little Leaguer Throws Perfect Game with 18 Strikeouts

Little leaguer Colby Gage, 12, from Adams, Massachusetts performed a feat no pitcher in major league history has ever done. He threw a perfect game and retired every batter he faced by strikeout. That’s right, 18 hitters up, and 18 hitters down by way of the K (I couldn’t resist, Orsillo).

Since there are 1000s of little league teams in the country, it’s hard to know if it’s some kind of record. Experts estimate that three perfect perfect games (when every hitter is retired by strikeout) occur every year.

Either way, it’s an incredible acheivement for the 12-year-old, who apparently used a mix of fastballs and curveballs to get through the game. Little League rules indicate that a pitcher cannot toss 85 pitches in a game. Luckily, Gage completed the feat with 81 pitches.

I don’t know if it’s healthy for a seventh grader to throw 81 pitches in a game or hurl some curveballs, but I don’t know, I’m not a doctor. Regardless, Sports of Boston would like to issue a big “Congrats!” to Colby!

  1. Congradulations Colby!
You’ve done something that “professional ballplayers” can only dream of doing. What makes this story great other than your ability, is you are playing a game for the love of it, and have succeeded.

    Best Wishes!
