Lugo Frustrated With Playing Time

Red Sox “shortstop” Julio Lugo is currently splitting time with Nick Green at shortstop, and he’s not happy. Lugo began the year on the DL, and when Jed Lowrie went down, Green took over and has played pretty well. Lugo, meanwhile, is back and healthy, but isn’t playing everyday.

“Are you OK if somebody comes one day and another day you’re not working?” he said. “Then that’s how I feel. I love Boston. I love it. There’s nowhere else you want to play. I’ll tell you the truth, I think fans have been fair to me.”

Julio Lugo is hitting .256 with one HR, four RBI, and four errors. He hasn’t been the everyday shortstop since the 2007 season, and frankly, I don’t think he deserves it in 2009.

  1. Is this guy for real? What a joke. He’s awful. Ever since the steroid testing has become rigorous, he’s been awful. You cannot hit/field like he does and then bitch about more playing time.

  2. I’m glad he wants to play more, but what right does he have to complain? I have a feeling if the Sox trade Penny for a veteran SS to pair with Lowrie, that they may just cut ties with Lugo and eat the money…
