Penguins Win Stanley Cup

Just imagine if the Bruins got their hands on the Penguins in the Eastern Conference Finals…but they didn’t, and it’s time to congratulate the Penguins on hoisting Lord Stanley’s Cup for the third time in team history. If it can’t be our lovable Black&Gold, then having it be the other Black&Gold will have to do.

The Pens beat the mighty Detroit Red Wings 2-1, including holding off a flurry of attempts during the final seconds. Pens goalie Marc-Andre Fluery made a diving save to preserve the lead in the closing moments.

A big congrats goes out to former Bruin Bill Guerin, who won his first Stanley Cup since 1995 with the New Jersey Devils.

  1. The Pens swept Carolina, the team that beat Boston–yet we are to believe that the Bruins could have handled Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, et al, while folding at home to Carolina?

More likely the Pens win that series easily, probably no more than 6 games

  2. The Pens are definitely a talented bunch. I’m not so sure our injury-ridden Bruins could have handled them this year either.

On the plus side, the Pens will be hard-pressed to hold on to all their players with the salary cap. Maybe the Bruins can benefit from it!
