BC QB Position Takes Another Hit

Joe Boisture, the purported future of the program at the position, backed out of his verbal commitment to the school, citing distance concerns.  The Saline, Michigan native has switched his commitment to Michigan State, where his grandfather once coached.  BC lost Matty Ryan two seasons ago to the NFL and relied on senior Chris Crane last year, who had very little college experience.  His season got off to a rough start, but showed progress until injury forced him to cede the position to Dominique Davis, who was erratic.

Davis won the job in Spring practice from among a stable of quarterbacks, but Coach Frank Spaziani seemed to hope that another signal caller would emerge.  Then, Davis was suspended for academic reasons, and ultimately left the program and BC picked up 25-year-old David Shinskie, who gave up on his minor league baseball career.

Boisture would not have been playing this year anyway, and depending on how Shinskie played this coming season, or if another emerged, may have had the luxury of red shirting his freshman season in 2010.  He was viewed as the long term answer at quarterback, but may have been spooked by Shinskie’s presence.  More likely, Boisture was just waiting for an opportunity to open up at Michigan State and held the BC verbal “just in case.”  Spaziani likely will look to sign another quarterback to next year’s incoming class.
