The shocking news today was that the over 50-year-old WBCN radio station in Boston will cease airing on August 13. The station, which has carried the Patriots since 1995, will live on as an internet-only station. WBMX (Mix 98.5) will take the vacated frequency and broadcast at 104.1 MHz as Mix 104 and “98.5 The Sports Hub” will take over WBMX’ current dial position. The new station has a pending FCC request to use the call letters WBZ-FM.
Patriots fans will still find the games on the radio on FM, just now at 98.5 where the Bruins will move over from the AM band for this coming season. The Bruins had been broadcast on WBZ 1030 AM since 1995-1996. The Sports Hub station will be the first all sports station in Boston on the FM band.
And don’t worry, Toucher and Rich will still be around…
