With rookies reporting to training camp yesterday there was little doubt that second round pick Patrick Chung – though unsigned at the time – would show up to camp and not hold out. Instead of making their rabid fanbase sweat a little, the Patriots and Chung ended all inkling of contractual unrest by agreeing to a deal.
Chung was selected with the 34th overall pick, which the Patriots acquired in the trade with the Chiefs for Mike Vrabel and Matt Cassel. Chung will be in the mix with Brandon Meriweather and James Sanders for time at safety.
The Pats also have played five players on the active physically unable to perform list, including defensive end Ty Warren and outside linebacker Shawn Crable. Warren is recovering from groin surgery and it’s unknown what’s wrong with Crable. Because they are on the active PUP list and not the reserve PUP list, both Warren and Crable can return to training camp when the team feels they are ready.
