Mariners Trade Washburn to Detroit, Yankees Denied Starting Pitcher

Espn.com reports that the Seattle Mariners have traded starting pitcher Jarrod Washburn to the Detroit Tigers for two minor leaguers. The New York Yankees were talking to the Mariners as recently as yesterday about a deal for the Mariners lefty. The Yankees will now have to look elsewhere if they want to upgrade their rotation and stay ahead of the Red Sox.

Washburn is enjoying a stellar season with an 8-6 record and 2.64 ERA. He now moves to Detroit’s Comerica Park, which is a notorious pitcher’s park. Detroit leads the A.L. Central by 2.0 games and hopes that Washburn can keep them ahead in the division.
