The Red Sox may have found their long-sought pinch runner. The Sox sent a player to be named later or cash to the Orioles Saturday for minor league outfielder Joey Gathright. Gathright has absurd speed, and can definitely help a slow Red Sox team (besides speedster Jacoby Ellsbury).
Gathright, who was traded to the Orioles in May for Ryan Freel but never played for the major league squad, has a career .262 average with the Rays, Royals, Cubs with 79 career stolen bases. With his speed, Gathright brings no power, as evidenced by his one career home run.
You may recall him charging the mound in Spring Training back in 2006 to brawl with former Red Sox pitcher Julian Tavarez. Funny stuff!
You also may recall that Joey Gathright is so fast, that he can leap over cars. I remembered this too, and thanks to the wonderful world of YouTube, I can share video of his feat with all of you.
