Jerod Mayo Injury?

Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo left the Week 1 game against the Bills favoring his right leg. Word from the Patriots sidelines, according to Boston.com, is that Mayo has a right knee injury and his return is questionable.

His presence on the defense is instrumental, as the Bills scored easily on the drive he was injured on. The Patriots don’t have much depth at inside linebacker with the Bruschi retirement from an already-thin LB core. Stay tuned…

Update (9/15/2009)

There were rumors floating around Mayo has an Grade 3 MCL sprain and whispers about a 6-8 week recovery time. From Bill Belichick’s comments today however, it doesn’t appear to be season-ending:

“I don’t think that is what it is,” said Belichick.

We’ll see how he’s listed in the injury report…
