Brady, Pats Find Stride Late, Beat Bills 25-24

Just take a deep breath Pats fans, and relax. Everything is going to be OK.

Tom Brady’s triumphant return didn’t go as planned, but Brady found his stride late in the fourth quarter and was able to pull off the 29th fourth quarter comeback of his career. Brady completed 12-of-14 for 112 yards and two touchdowns in the last 5:32 to give the Patriots the 25-24 win.

However, Brady needed help in the form of a fumble by Leodis McKelvin on a kickoff return with 2:06 remaining. Stephen Gotskowski recovered the fumble and then Brady connected with Ben Watson on a 16-yard touchdown three plays later to give the Pats the lead for good.

Randy Moss and Wes Welker both picked up where they left off with 12 catches a piece. Moss ended the game with a game-high 141 yards while Welker added 93 yards of his own. Meanwhile, on the other side of field, Terrel Owens made only two catches, which is coincidentally the same number of viewers that watched “The T.O. Show.” And burn.

Patriots Offensive Player of the Game

Tom Brady: 39/53, 378 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT

Tom Brady silenced any doubters with his stellar fourth quarter comeback against the Bills Monday night. His final stat line looks great, but it was a shaky start for the QB. We’ll chalk that up as shaking off the cobwebs and say that Tom Brady will look more like he did in the fourth quarter when he takes on the New York Jets next week.

Patriots Defensive Player of the Game

Tully Banta Cain: 4 tackles, 2 sacks

Tully lined up at DE in 4-3 sets and OLB in 3-4 sets for the Patriots and saw his role increase with the absence of Richard Seymour. In a game where the defense looked very porous at times, Banta-Cain came up with two big sacks, including the one that sealed the Patriots’ win.

Bills Player of the Game

Fred Jackson: 20 touches, 140 total yards, 1 TD

Fred Jackson torched the Patriots last December and did the same again Monday night. Jackson gained 140 total yards, 83 in the air, and scored a touchdown to give the Bills what they thought was a comfortable 11-point lead with 5:32 remaining.

Game Changing Play

Leodis McKelvin’s fumble

McKelvin’s decision to bring the ball out of the end zone will be talked about as one of the more questionable decisions of the game. If he knees the ball in the end zone, we are talking about a different outcome. Unfortunately for the Bills, McKelvin met Brandon Merriweather and Pierre Woods and the ball found its way into Gostkowksi’s arms.
