Update, 9/26/2009: Lester underwent x-rays Friday night, and they all came back negative. His injury is officially listed as a contusion in his right quadriceps. The line drive hit Lester on the meatier part of his leg (his quad), and not his knee cap, as originally feared. According to Terry Francona and team doctor Larry Ronan, Lester is listed as day-to-day and may make his next scheduled start.
“It hit me in a good spot that, hopefully, it won’t make me miss any time,” Lester said.
Against the Yankees Friday night, Sox starter and ace Jon Lester was hit in the side of his knee by a line drive off the bat of Melky Cabrera, and he hit the ground immediately in pain. He left the game trailing 4-0, and was able to walk off the field with the help of trainers. When walking down the steps of the dugout, he was noticeably in pain has he heavily favored his right knee.
Recently called-up lefty Hunter Jones entered the game in relief of Jon Lester.
Stay tuned for any more Lester injury updates.
