WEEI.com reports that Boston SP Josh Beckett will miss his start tonight against the Blue Jays with a case of mild back spasms. Right-handed reliever Michael Bowden will start in his place.
Bowden has been used in a relief role this season making six appearances out of the bullpen. He has put together a 7.84 ERA in 10.1 innings. His last appearance was on Friday against New York where he allowed two runs in 2.1 innings of work.
Bowden’s last career start came in August of 2008 against the Chicago White Sox where he got the win in an 8-2 Sox victory.
Hopefully the injury to Beckett is not too serious and he can be well-rested for the playoffs.

I really hope this is precautionary.
