Florida and Texas had the week off and their inactivity was the Crimson Tide’s gain as Alabama’s win over Kentucky was enough to finally push them past Texas into the #2 slot in our rankings and earned a first place vote, the only one not cast for the Gators all season. The SEC is showing tremendous strength with three teams in the top four, but conference play is coming in force, beginning with Florida-LSU this weekend, so the rankings will really start to sort themselves out…or chaos will reign. Miami’s upset over Oklahoma, capping a 3-1 start to the season against four ranked opponents, was enough to re-enter them in our Top 10.
Pollsters are SoB’s Brian, Carl, David, Erikk, KC, Matt, Mike, and Ty and comments were gathered with the votes. The ballots are available.
|1||Florida (7)||79||1||Erikk says, ‘It’s the same old story. Fortunately, the Gators had a week off to let Tebow heal. Excellent matchup this Saturday against LSU.’|
|2||Alabama (1)||71||3||KC says, ‘Looking to grab #1 if Florida slips against LSU.’|
|3||Texas||65||2||Mike says, ‘Their schedule toughens up in two weeks, so Colorado is a bit of a trap game for them.’|
|4||LSU||53||4||KC says, ‘Big win over Georgia, matuchp with Florida looms large.’|
|5||Virginia Tech||42||5||Mike says, ‘Only loss being to the #2 team and close shows they belong with the elite.’|
|6 (tie)||Boise State||34||6||Erikk says, ‘Once again, they are only ranked this high because they beat Oregon and are undefeated. A win over UC-Davis really doesn’t do it for me.’|
|6 (tie)||USC||34||7||KC says, ‘Easy win over ranked Cal, could finish 11-1.’|
|8||Cincinnati||17||8||Mike says, ‘They get into the meat of the Big East schedule which will solidify or expose them.’|
|9||Ohio State||14||–||Erikk says, ‘Welcome back to the Top 10, Buckeyes! Two missed FGs in the first half is a bit rough, but you still got the convincing W over Indiana.’|
|10||Miami (FL)||11||–||Mike says, ‘Going 3-1 against four ranked teams earns a spot in the Top 10.’|
