Florida and Alabama have notched impressive wins this season, which keeps them atop the SoB Top 10. Texas has started off soft, but will get their chance at a marquee win at the Cotton Bowl this weekend in the annual “Red River Rivalry” against Oklahoma. The Sooners, despite two losses, have plenty to play for and can still win the Big XII and earn a BCS bowl bid themselves. Florida passed their first big test with a win over LSU to remain our #1, but Alabama is lurking.
Pollsters are SoB’s Brian, David, Erikk, Jonathan, KC, Mike, and Ty and comments were gathered with the votes. The ballots are available.
|1||Florida (6)||68||1||KC says, ‘Gutsy win over LSU keeps them #1…for now.’|
|2||Alabama (1)||64||2||Erikk says, ‘The Crimson Tide needs to finish the job once they’re in the red zone, but holding Ole Miss to 13 total yards in the first half shows that the defense is ready for the rest of the SEC schedule.’|
|3||Texas||54||3||KC says, ‘Longhorns finally face a legitimate opponent this week.’|
|4||Virginia Tech||49||5||Mike says, ‘Hokies put exclamation point on BC win and should be in a BCS bowl. Will it be Orange or the BCS bowl?’|
|5 (tie)||Boise State||31||6||Erikk says, ‘Thank God for Oregon. The rest of the BSU’s schedule leaves a lot to be desired.’|
|5 (tie)||USC||31||6||Mike says, ‘Had a week off, but still has a win over Ohio State…and a loss to Washington.’|
|7||LSU||23||4||Erikk says, ‘Holding the #1 team in the country to their lowest scoring total in three years deserves props, even in a loss.’|
|8||Ohio State||20||9||Mike says, ‘Stifling defense should be turning heads.’|
|9||Miami (FL)||16||10||KC says, ‘Impossibly difficult schedule has them in Top 10.’|
|10||Iowa||12||–||Erikk says, ‘It was closer than it should’ve been, but it was still a victory over Michigan. The Hawkeyes could go undefeated until their matchup against Ohio State in November… and they could still be undefeated after that.’|
